You wait ages for one and then suddenly two come along at once. Apparently busses are exactly the same as Lionel Messi goals against Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

The problem with having a positive record against Messi is that you know at some point there's a very good chance he'll eventually get the better of you.

Sure Lionel Messi and Gianluigi Buffon had only come up against each other four times before tonight but there aren't many teams that come up against Messi even that many times and keep him from scoring.

However Buffon managed to boast that very record from their first four meetings, including a Champions League final and both legs of last season's Champions League quarter final.

Today the two sides once again came up against each other in the continent's major club competition and this time it was the Argentine who bested the Italian.

Messi scored his first in the opening 45 minutes and doubled his tally with an absolute beauty in the second half:

Despite Messi being brilliant as always last season the Spanish side were far from their usual standards and only won the Copa del Rey.

The lost in the quarters of the Champions League against the Old Lady whilst their fierce rivals Real Madrid, who defended their title in Europe, won La Liga for the first time in five years.

After losing Neymar in the summer there was a lot of stories about a club in crisis at the beginning of the season but they've started with three wins from three in the league.

Tonight could have been a tricky tie against Juve to open the Group Stages but they came through with a 3-0 win with Messi scoring twice and Rakitic getting the other.

Buffon will hope that Messi breaking his duck won't stop him winning his first Champions League trophy aged 40 at the end of the season.

This is the Italian legend's last chance before hanging up his gloves after the World Cup.
