The Ballon d'Or trophy is nothing more than the Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo award right? Well FIFA 18 doesn't think that's going to last too much longer after one gamer decided to find out who wins the award for the next decade.
For the last decade the trophy that once decided which footballer had the best year of any has merely decided whether Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi has won the most silverware in the previous 52 weeks.
Check out our all time FIFA XI:
Sure one of them has been the best player for the past 10 years but on a couple of occasions they probably haven't always been the best players in anyone year but between them they've won the award 10 times, equally five each.

Ronaldo won last year and at the moment it looks like Messi could get to his sixth first but that's far from guaranteed. But the real debate is who will be next, Neymar? De Bruyne? Salah? Hazard? Griezmann? Plenty of names are in the mix.
However one gamer, GardieFIFA, decided to use the football game to find out who the winners for the next decade will be. To be honest there's definitely some bad ones in here:
2019; Cristiano Ronaldo- Real Madrid
2020; Robert Lewandowski- Bayern Munich

2021; Neymar- PSG
2022; Antoine Griezmann- Atletico Madrid
2023; Antoine Griezmann- Atletico Madrid

2024; Mauro Icardi- Real Madrid
2025; Gabriel Jesus- Manchester City
2026; Antonio Sanabria- AC Milan

2027; Angel Correa- Real Madrid
2028; Oscar Cardozo- Barcelona
2029; Axel Tuanzebe- Everton
Now I've certainly got a few more problems with some of these selections from FIFA's simulations than I do with others. For example I could well imagine the first three happening whilst Icardi and Real and Jesus at City are also highly possible.

The fact that Lionel Messi is going to end his career without another one of the golden balls, whilst ultimately possible, seems quite unlikely.
Griezmann winning for Atleti seems unlikely too considering the strong links between the French forward and Barcelona for this summer but there's clearly one 'winner' who really jumps off the page.
Sure anything can happen in football but is anyone really having Everton's Axel Tuanzebe, or even Manchester United's for that matter, actually lifting the trophy ever, even in 2029?!
