Player Nearly Gets Accidental International Call Up After Football Manager Mistake

The latest version of the managerial game that made the likes of Akinfeev, Vanden Borre and John Fleck into legends is due to come out soon.

I've played so much Football Manager in my life I occasionally confuse real life with the game. So I understand why one player was confused for being Bolivian when the game said that's what his second nationality was.

My name is Ryan and I'm addicted to Football Manager. I don't mind admitting it to be honest, I've been playing Championship Manager and then Football Manager since the 1996/97 version of the game and I've not missed a single year since.

It's no surprise that occasionally I think a player has previously played for a club in real life only to find out that was actually just on my latest save, the one where I've taken Bury to the brink of Europa League victory.

So I can completely understand people thinking life on the game is complete and utter gospel, you tell me a 15 year old Supat Rungratsamee is going to be the greatest striker ever and I'm believing you.

And I'm not the only one. According to Montpellier defender Ruben Aguilar as mistake on the game, that said his second nationality was Bolivian, led people in the country, and tv stations, to call for him to be called up to the national side. Talking to Goal he said:

"It's something quite strange though (laughs). I think basically it all starts from the game 'Football Manager.' They had put me Bolivian nationality in addition to French nationality.

"Last year, I received messages from Bolivians after my matches. After the meeting against the PSG, it was multiplied by a hundred. I received a lot of messages. Apparently, in Bolivia, they were talking about me on television saying I was selectable.

"I received a lot of requests from there. I was forced to make a statement on my page to explain that I was not Bolivian so not selectable for selection (laughs).

The 24 year-old went on to explain that whilst he definitely isn't South American he could have dual nationality, adding, "I am French by my mother and Spanish by my father. I do not have dual nationality yet but I've wanted to have it for a while. It is more in relation to family ties than to pretend to the Spanish selection."

Usually the game only make mistakes on judging a player to be a future world beater, and even then it's really the player's fault!
