Chelsea Finally Release The Club's Longest Serving Player

Finally Matej Delač has left Stamford Bridge, perhaps he'll get to play some games with his new team.

It's a sad, sad day for Chelsea fans as their current longest-serving player is finally leaving the club.

After legendary skipper John Terry left the club last summer, to join Aston Villa, following a 22-year stint at Stamford Bridge, it meant that 25-year old Croatian goalkeeper Matej Delac became the longest-serving player despite never playing a game for them.

Delac was announced as a Chelsea player back in 2009 after impressing for Inter Zapresic. However, his career with the Blues hasn't gone to plan, as it comprised of him being sent on loan nine times and failing to make a competitive appearance for the club.

His only time in between the sticks for Chelsea was a friendly in 2014 where he played just over half a game.

Now Chelsea have released their list of players that will be released at the end of June, when their contracts end, and Delac is on that list. Finally the club are releasing him.

Fortunately there's no question of what next for the Croat as his next move had already been announced in April. Ater nine loan spells, the legendary Delac has penned a two-year contract with AC Horsen in the Danish top-flight and will join up with them in the summer.

You have to wonder just what his match fitness is going to be like!

Speaking about his situation back in November in an interview with Goal, he said work permit issues derailed his progress.

"The problem was not my quality, Chelsea believed in me, extended my contract several times, but the problem was always work permit," he explained.

"Chelsea had a plan for my career, but you can not plan some things. As I arrived, aged 18, it seemed like some movie, I can't describe that feeling. I will remember the greatness of Chelsea FC, they raised me and taught me human and football manners

We're looking forward to watching his testimonial match...
