Real Madrid and Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo was earlier crowned 'The Best' FIFA men's player of 2016 pipping rival Lionel Messi to the prestigious gong.

But if the Chinese Taipei, Turks & Caicos as well as Vanuata had their way the award would've gone to Leicester City and England frontman Jamie Vardy.

Per Alex Richards, Vardy was the No.1 choice ahead of the likes of Ronaldo and Messi by the national coaches of these three countries:

Vardy had an incredible 2016. From guiding The Foxes to an unforgettable Premier League triumph as well as earning a spot in England's squad for the European Championships.

Following his exploits, Vardy was ultimately awarded with a very respectable eighth place in the Ballon d'Or while being the only Englishman in the top 17.

Meanwhile, the likes of Lesotho, Grenada, Indonesia, Cuba, Samoa and Kyrgyzstan also thought Ronaldo shouldn't of won the award.

So, there you have it, despite getting the Champions League and Euro 2016 Championship winners medal around his neck, these countries don't think he deserved it.

Did 'The Best' award end up in the right hands? Let us know.
