Bayer Leverkusen Youngster Unavailable For Atletico Clash Because Of School Exams

Bayer Leverkusen take on Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon tomorrow and are tasked with turning around a 4-2 first leg defeat.

It looks a difficult challenge for the Bundesliga side, particularly after conceding four away goals against last year's finalists and it's been made even more difficult by the fact the club have several key players unavailable for selection

The likes of Jonathan Tah, Lars Bender and Stefan Kießling are all out injured, while Benjamin Henrichs is out because of a yellow card ban.

However, there's another absentee in 17-year old youngster Kai Havertz.

Havertz has not travelled to Madrid with the squad because he has some important exams at school.

Needless to say, there were plenty of brilliant reactions to the news on social media:

Havertz made his debut for Leverkusen last year and has been touted as a top prospect. He turned out in the first leg against Atletico and has made a total of 20 appearances this season but that wasn't enough to stop him from skipping his exams for footballing reasons.

Even if you are a top talent playing for a club in the Champions League, it seems that education always comes first!
