Rio Ferdinand's planned venture into professional boxing has everyone talking including former Manchester United teammate Gary Neville.

And after Neville took the piss out of his next challenge inside the squared circle, Ferdinand replied perfectly with a brilliant message.

The 38-year-old grabbed headlines last night following his plans to come out of retirement. Though he's not returning to the pitch but instead trading the stadiums for arenas as he launches a boxing career.

Needless to say, his next sporting adventure has social media rife.

Following the announcement, Neville took to Twitter to troll Ferdinand.

He posted: "Hey @rioferdy5 when you're boxing does Vidic come in and take the punches whilst you cover round the back with me?"

Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic forged one of United's greatest ever defensive pairings. The former England defender cleaned up the back, while Vidic would challenge for aerial duels.

And he's admitted that the Serbian took some hits for him and Neville, while jokingly suggesting he'll be in his corner for his first bout and leaving out the retired full-back.

His post reads: "Vida did take some hits for us. He might have to come in my corner! Some1 that can take bit responsibility... will leave you out @GNev2"

After winning a number of Premier League titles and FA Cups, not to mention skippering United to Champions League glory in 2008, he now aims for belts inside the squared circle.

"I've won titles, now I'm aiming for a belt," Ferdinand vowed during a promotional video shoot for Betfair.

He racked up 455 appearances during his trophy-laden career at Old Trafford, but he now sets his sight on the fight business.

And ahead of his debut, Ferdinand looks in supreme physical shape.

It's been confirmed that he'll compete at cruiserweight. Tony Bellew, where you at?!

We're kidding of course, the Scouser has a date with David Haye. Well, he's signed his contract - will Bellew?
