Manchester City's summer spending continued today, with the Blues officially announcing the signing of Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy.
With a transfer fee of £52 million, Mendy becomes the most expensive defender in football history, and has put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.

City channelled the spirit of the Hacienda days to announce the signing, with a nod to New Order's 'Blue Monday' also included in the official hashtag of #BlueMendy:
The 23-year old has already joined up with his new teammates in California, after flying out to Los Angeles yesterday, and he produced a cracking Tweet after becoming a City player.

Mendy loves teasing and bantering on social media, and that's still the case now that he's a blue - with the former Marseille man replying to a GIF of him breezing past Kevin De Bruyne, his new City teammate, in the classic 5-3 Champions League round of 16 clash in February.

"He will have his revenge in training lol" was the response he conjured up.
The Tweet went down a treat with City fans, and it seems like Mendy is already on his way becoming a fan favourite at the club:
