Bayern Munich Can't Deal With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United Appointment

Bayern Munich Can't Deal With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United Appointment

There's some very old wounds that clearly still hurt Bayern Munich after Solskjaer's last minute winner in the Champions League final.

AND SOLSKJAER HAS WON IT! The famous words that accompanied, to date, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's biggest contribution to Manchester United. It's no wonder Bayern Munich aren't too happy with social media today.

'Late in May in 99', as Manchester United fans sing, was one of the club's single greatest moments and certainly the best moment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's playing career at Old Trafford.

It was then that famously the striker replaced Andy Cole in the 81st minute in the final of the Champions League against Bayern Munich.

Bayern had won the Bundesliga and were in the final of the DFB Cup and United had won the Premier League and the FA Cup and both sides were chasing historical trebles.

When Solskjaer came on the English side trailed 1-0 through Mario Basler's sixth minute free kick and time was running out. Of course Teddy Sheringham would equalise in the 91st minute and just two minutes later it was the Norwegian's turn to score, slotting home the winner.

Now the former Cardiff City manager is returning to Old Trafford as interim manager for the rest of the season. That of course kicked off lots of social media posts about him and THAT goal.

It didn't go down too well in Munich with Bayern's social media team unable to cope:

And it's no surprise when the Champions League Twitter page seemed to be a tribute to the Baby Faced Assassin for a short time on Wednesday morning:

Bayern players were very upset at the end of the famous night in 1999 at the Camp Nou, and understandably so, but their season wasn't over.

They faced Werder Bremen in the final of the German Cup on June 12th, still able to complete a domestic double, but they lost that final on penalties.

It's no wonder that they couldn't cope with all the mentions of Solskjaer on Wednesday, they brought back some very bad memories.
