A pitch invader ran on the pitch in the first half of Aston Villa's Midlands derby against Birmingham and hit Villa midfielder Jack Grealish in the back of the head.

The Midlands derby between Aston Villa and Birmingham City is often a heated game between players and the fans usually join in with chants aimed at one another.

In Sunday's early kick off though one fan ran onto the pitch in the ninth minute of the game and headed straight for Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.

The young Englishman had his head turned and was walking away from the oncoming fan when the man smacked him round the back of the neck and floored him.

A steward quickly arrived to pull the fan away as players converged on him

The fan can be seen disgustingly kissing to the crowd and celebrating as he was taken away by the steward.

Grealish did very well not to react angrily towards the fan and just sat on the pitch recovering from the attack whilst other players approached him.

Heading into the game Villa and Birmingham were both still eyeing hopes of making it into the Championship play-offs.

Visitors Villa could overtake their rivals with a win whilst the Blues will be hoping to close the gap to sixth placed Derby County to just two points.

After the disgraceful scenes hopefully we can get back to the football.
