Richard Scudamore is set to receive a £5 million goodbye gift from clubs after they were all asked to give £250k each for the executive chairman when he leaves his role.

If you're lucky enough to have people like you at your job and you don't leave it under bad circumstances then there's a good chance that you'll end up with a nice leaving gift.

Mostly there might be a cake, a card, something funny to do with your time at the company perhaps. It just depends how much your colleagues actually like you.

Most of us don't get paid £2.5 million a year so we understand when our colleagues only give a few quid each towards said leaving gift.

The Premier League's executive chairman Richard Scudamore, the one who wanted to bring an international 39th game to the league, is leaving his job next month and is set to get a big gift.

According to BBC Sport, Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck requested each club give £250,000 for Scudamore's leaving gift, meaning he's set to pocket double his already annual wage for his leaving present.

Buck, who is friends with Scudamore, asked the clubs to contribute ahead of a meeting on Tuesday, presumably they all brought it in brown paper bags.

Most people won't be happy to hear how much their clubs have had to give to Scudamore. Sure the chief exec has brought lots of money to the teams through TV deals but it's a lot of money that could be used in the community or to reduce ticket prices for fans.

In June the Chelsea chairman said, "We expect to make an appropriate appointment in good time so there can be a seamless transition," and he, along with Leicester City chief executive Susan Whelan and Burnley chairman Mike Garlick have been searching for Scudamore's replacement.
