Manchester United Could Be Fined For Angel Di Maria Incident

Manchester United Could Be Fined For Angel Di Maria Incident

The Premier League side didn't have a good night against PSG and their former player ran the show with two assists.

Angel di Maria had a return to Old Trafford to remember on Tuesday night when he provided assists for both of PSG's goals in their 2-0 win over Manchester United and his former club could be in trouble over the fans treatment of the winger.

The week of Valentine's Day seems the most apt time for the curse of the ex, or rule of the ex if you will, to hit and Angel di Maria made sure that was the case on Tuesday night.

Di Maria broke the British transfer record when he moved from Real Madrid to Manchester United in 2014 but just a year later he was out of the club and moved to PSG.

By the end of his time in the Premier League the former Real midfielder really didn't want to still be in the country and he eventually forced his move by refusing to join the team on their pre season tour.

So it was no surprise that the 30 year old wasn't the home fans favourite person on Tuesday night and they booed and jeered him throughout.

Things went too far early in the second half when one fan threw a beer bottle in the direction of Di Maria, which he picked up and pretended to drink from.

That incident could land United in trouble and, as per the Independent, should the referee mention the moment in his match report then they will face disciplinary action.

Interestingly French newspaper RMC claim that it might not be the home team that face punishment but in fact the player, and even claim he could be banned.

The reason Di Maria 'could' face punishment is during celebrations for one of the goals he shouted 'f*ck off' at fans of the home side, presumably for their booing.

UEFA's Article 15 warns against 'provocation of the spectators' and can lead to a suspension, although it seems unlikely.

The former Benfica man had the last laugh on the night with his two assists and PSG winning and it seems unlikely that United will overturn the result, especially as they'll be without Paul Pogba for the return leg.

Di Maria might have got the present of a beer last night but he won't be expecting any chocolates or cards from United fans tomorrow.
