It's one of the worst challenges you will have seen for a long time.

Uruguay and Argentina played out a 0-0 draw in a World Cup qualifier and Montevideo last night, and it's anyone's guess as to how Luis Suarez was not shown his marching orders.

10 minutes from time, Suarez, who along with his Barcelona colleague Lionel Messi, took part in a stunt to promote a joint 2030 World Cup bid from the two nations, lunged in on Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi in one of the most shocking challenges in recent memory.

The Barcelona man was high and late, with studs showing, and as seen in the above clip, caught Otamendi horrendously.

Fortunately the Argentine was able to shake off the terrible tackle and see out the remaining minutes of the game, but despite Suarez being let off the hook by Victor Carillo, the man in the middle, he left the pitch straight away.

That's because in raking hs studs down Otamendi's legs, Suarez, who has returned to action two weeks ahead of schedule after suffering a knee injury, playing for Barcelona, hobbled off the pitch and was replaced by Girona striker Cristhian Stuani.

However after the game, the former Liverpool forward addressed the knee problem on his official Instagram page and downplayed the severity of the blow.

The post can be translated to:

"An important point to continue adding and continue to dream of the World Cup !! I'm fine, it was just a cramp in the twin [leg]. Let's go Uruguay."

Following the 0-0 draw, coupled with Chile's shock defeat to Paraguay and Brazil's win over Ecuador, Brazil, already qualified for the big tournament in Russia next year, remain well clear at the top of the rankings, Uruguay are in third and Chile sit in fourth, ahead of former boss Jorge Sampaoli's Argentina side only on goal difference.
