Lionel Messi Was Involved In An Altercation With Barcelona Fans Following Loss

Messi couldn't impact the game as Liverpool came from 3-0 down to advance to the final of the Champions League in June.

Tuesday night wasn't Lionel Messi's greatest night as a footballer and not only did the Barcelona legend have to suffer defeat in the cruelest way he also had an issue with his own fans in the airport post game.

Lionel Messi lit up the first leg of the Champions League semi final between Barcelona and Liverpool by scoring one of the most brilliant free kicks you're likely to ever see.

The Barca forward scored another on the night too, to give the La Liga champions a 3-0 lead, and his assist for Ousmane Dembele should have put the tie to bed after 90 minutes but Dembele messed up to keep Liverpool just in the tie.

That miss would ultimately cost the Spanish side with Liverpool completing a remarkable comeback with Divock Origi's second goal of the game making it 4-0 on the night after 79 minutes of the second leg.

Messi was largely ineffectual on Tuesday, although he was still one of the team's better players and then he was delayed as he had to do a drugs test, missing the team bus back to the airport.

And things got worse when he did catch up with his teammates with Mundo Deportivo reporting there was an altercation with fans near security at John Lennon Airport with security guard Pepe Costa having to take the player away from the argument:

Whilst one group of fans were bothering the five time Ballon d'Or winner about his and the team's performance there was another group of fans that clapped the club captain.

Messi had a good chance in the first half when Jordi Alba pulled the ball back for him, when the full back should have shot, and later the Argentina forward found Alba in the box with a through ball but the Spaniard's effort was saved.

The loss to Liverpool, mirroring the one in last season's Champions League to Roma, will come as a huge blow to Messi who was hoping to add a third Treble to his list of incredible achievements.

Will the 31 year old be able to right the wrongs of the last few years and recapture the Champions League next season?
