Journalist's Conspiracy Theory For Why Cristiano Ronaldo Didn't Win Ballon d'Or

The Juventus midfielder 'only' came second as his former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric took home the prize instead.

Cristiano Ronaldo's sisters blamed the mafia for their brother failing to win his sixth Ballon d'Or but one journalist thinks that it's all because he's not playing for Real Madrid anymore.

The Ballon d'Or became the duopoly of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for 10 years with each man winning five of football's most prestigious awards. On Monday night their domination ended with Luka Modric claiming the award instead.

It can be argued that, though Ronaldo and Messi have been the best two players on the planet for the whole ten year period. they weren't always the best player in a single year and could have easily not won a few of those Ballon d'Ors.

Players like Wesley Sneijder, Xavi and Manuel Neuer have certainly had vald arguments in previous years and it was good to see Modric, who deserved to win for many reasons, get his hands on the award.

Not everyone was happy with the decision with Ronaldo's sisters going full on 'crazy person says what' by suggesting the mafia were behind their brother not winning.

Now one journalist has come up with a conspiracy that it's all because the five time winner is no longer at Real Madrid:

It's an interesting thought but obviously there's a couple of holes in the theory, not least because Messi won all five of his awards with Ronaldo at Real whereas the former Sporting winger won his first at Manchester United.

Now Real do have 11 wins in the Ballon d'Or, won by seven players, but four of those were won by Ronaldo and they are one of the most successful sides in Europe so it's no surprise.

Seeing as only one journalist per country gets to vote the idea that the Madrid media have that much effect seems a little over the top too.

Modric went further than Ronaldo in the World Cup and won the tournament's Golden Ball award, add his matched achievements with Ronaldo at club level and you can see why he won.

Not everything is a conspiracy.
