Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God' goal will forever be the best handball goal ever scored due to its occasion and moment. Gerard Pique's attempt will go down as one of the worst as it earnt him a very early bath.

There can't be many more famous World Cup goals than Diego Maradona's first in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final between Argentina and England, in fact only his second in that match would probably compete.

Quite how one of the world's best players in history got away with his attempt to punch the ball into the net over the onrushing Peter Shilton is anyone's guess, it wasn't like he was subtle about the whole thing.

It's not exactly what you'd call unnoticable is it? Image: PA

Whilst many have tried, with most but not all failing, to replicate what Maradona did to put his country ahead in that match Gerard Pique's attempt tonight might be one of the worst.

Having already been booked the Barcelona defender tried to knock the ball in with his hand and the moment was clearly spotted by the officials and he was off for an early bath:

Social media felt sorry for another Gerard as Deulofeu was the man to be taken off as Ernesto Valverde had to shuffle his pack, and fans weren't generally pleased with Pique either:

I don't think it's too much of a stretch to suggest that Pique doesn't have the required skills to replicate either of Maradona's goals from 31 years ago!
