Former Manchester United Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Tipped For The Aberdeen Job

Charlie Nicholas has urged his former club Aberdeen to make a move for former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Aberdeen are searching for a new manager after sacking Stephen Glass following their Scottish Cup defeat to Motherwell on Saturday.

Jack Ross, Jim Goodwin and Paul Lambert have all been linked with the vacancy at Pittodrie.

However, Nicholas believes Aberdeen should “show ambition” and make contact with Solskjaer, who has been without a role since being sacked by Manchester United.

Nicholas wrote in the Daily Express: "If Aberdeen really want to make a statement they should go and make an attempt to speak to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"I was thinking about managerial options for my old club and I would love them to go out and make a real statement of intent.

"Why not go and ask the former Manchester United manager if he is interested?

"He can only so no, but if you don't ask you don't get.

"People might say he has just managed one of the biggest clubs in the world, why would he even consider Aberdeen?

"I know and I get that but if you look at Solskjaer's CV away from United it has been at the likes of Molde and Cardiff.

"They are clubs who are of similar size and potential to Aberdeen.

"Why not show some ambition? Go and see if you could get a big-name to reignite the fire at Aberdeen again."

Solskjaer was sacked by United in November after a 4-1 defeat to Watford left the club seventh in the Premier League table.

United would appoint Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season, while the club searches for Solskjaer’s permanent replacement.

Solskjaer has been linked with a number of different roles since his departure from Old Trafford, including the Norwegian national team and his former club Molde.
