An argument could be made that Aymeric Laporte has been the best defender in the Premier League this season.
Since his £57 million move from Athletic Bilbao in January, the 24-year-old centre-back took some time to settle in but this season he's been a revelation at the back for the Premier League champions.
The Frenchman is the only outfield player in Pep Guardiola's side who has played every minute of every league match this season, as well as never losing a game he's played in the Premier League.

Considering he's in a squad which also features John Stones, Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi, that is some feat.
However, Laporte is still yet to feature in any game for his country at the highest level.
The World Cup winners do have Real Madrid and Barcelona men Raphael Varane and Samuel Umtiti amongst their ranks, but Laporte has arguably put in better performances this season.

It has now been revealed why Laporte may not have received a cap yet.
Per Sport Witness, former France youth coach Pierre Mankowski has spoken on his experiences coaching Laporte earlier in his career, stating:
"He does not engage with the collective. He is a loner. When he communicates, it may seem awkward, because he has a great perception of his value and he shows it."
France coach Didier Deschamps is a big believer in keeping his squad harmonious so it is understandable as to why he could leave the City man out when he announces his squad this week.

Mankowski went on to add: "In the end, he's a good pro who has trouble enrolling in the collective."
Laporte, who is also eligible to play for Spain, had turned down the chance to obtain Spanish nationality.
If he keeps up his current form, it will be hard for Deschamps to ignore the City centre-back for much longer.
