While Paris Saint-Germain's pursuit of Neymar remains a confused affair, the former French champions are stepping up their efforts to tempt Alexis Sanchez away from Arsenal.

The Chilean forward has still not committed his future to the Gunners, with just a year left on his current deal at the Emirates stadium.

Having been dethroned as Ligue Un champions by Monaco last season, following four consecutive title successes, the club from the French capital are keen to reassert their dominance of the domestic scene and see Sanchez as one of the most important parts of the puzzle in the reshaping of Unai Emery's squad.

PSG's initial offer of £35 million for the former Barcelona man was knocked back by the Gunners, but the Parisian club have now upped the ante with an increased bid of £44 million.

Given that Arsenal could potentially lose Sanchez for absolutely nothing next summer, a bid of £44 million for a player who is refusing to sign a new deal at the club seems like an offer that the Gunners can't refuse (alright fucking Don Corleone).

The 28-year-old has remained tight lipped on his future but is believed to be less than thrilled at the prospect of spending a season without Champions League football, having finished fifth in the Premier League with the Gunners, last season.

Arsene Wenger claims that he is planning for the 2017/18 campaign with Sanchez as part of his squad, yet many fans remain unconvinced that the former Udinese man will still be in North London, next term, with Manchester City also wanting to lure the Chilean away from the Gunners.

Whether PSG's pursuit of Sanchez has any bearing on a potential deal for Neymar (which could cost somewhere in the region of £199 million) remains to be seen. But should Sanchez be a back up option for Barcelona's Brazilian goal machine, the Chilean is hardly a bad second choice.

With PSG and Barcelona scheduling press conferences half an hour apart this evening, more light may be shed on both Neymar and Sanchez's futures sooner rather than later.
