The UEFA Champions League is one of the most exciting times of the football calendar. Of course, it leads to a spectacular showdown in the final of a massive European stadium, but things could be about to change.
The London Evening Standard claims that Europe's elite competition could have a final held in New York City for the first time in its history.
Jaume Roures, who is the chief executive of Barcelona-based TV company Mediapro, has revealed that an open dialogue has been made about the potential to host the final in the US.
"Talks are ongoing [and] investigating the feasibility of hosting a future Champions League final in New York City," Roures told Catalunya Ràdio's 'El Mati' show.
Well, well.
If it's true, then it's not going to end well. One only needs to look at the backlash La Liga has received for planning to hold a fixture in the US.
The earliest final that could be hosted outside of Europe would be in 2020 or 2021.
This year's finalists will play at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex in Kiev, while the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid is the venue for the 2019 competition.
