Carabao Cup winner prize money will stun fans with Liverpool and Chelsea set for Wembley final

Carabao Cup winner prize money will stun fans with Liverpool and Chelsea set for Wembley final

Liverpool and Chelsea will fight out for surprising amount of prize money in the the Carabao Cup final on the 25th of February.

Liverpool's 3-2 victory over Fulham yesterday sets up another Chelsea vs Liverpool cup final with the first major trophy of the season up for grabs, but the prize money on offer will surprise fans.

Liverpool and Chelsea have locked horns on a number of occasions at Wembley recently, with the Merseyside club winning on both occasions in the 2021/22 season.

The pair will meet again on Sunday the 25th of February, with kick-off at 4:30 from Wembley Stadium.

Chelsea made it to the final after thrashing Middlesbrough 6-1 at Stamford Bridge after bouncing back from defeat in the first leg.

The final will be extremely important for both managers but for very different reasons. Jurgen Klopp will be looking to set the president for the rest of the season as they continue to lead the way in the Premier League and are firm favorites for the Europa League.

Mauricio Pochettino on the other hand desperately needs to prove himself to the Chelsea faithful, with Silverware the only real chance they have to salvage another disappointing league campaign.

It is often implied that the Carabao Cup is looked down upon by managers of the 'big six' with Klopp previously facing backlash for the amount of changes he made for the competition.

One of the main reasons for this is due to the prize money on offer as the winner of the final only receives £100,000 in prize money and the runner-up settling for £50,000.

This is 20 times less than the winners of England's other domestic cup, with the FA Cup winners receiving £2m for winning the competition,

It's no surprise the early rounds aren't particularly appealing for top sides as for getting through the first round of the competition, clubs earn just £5,000.

The second round isn't particularly fruitful either with clubs winning £7,000 for victory, with the prizes not increasing much further until the quarter-final and semi-final where clubs earn £25,000 for progression.
