Peter Crouch names the only Premier League player who scared him in his career

Peter Crouch has named the former Millwall player who scared him most in his playing days

Peter Crouch has revealed the name of the only Premier League player who scared him throughout his professional career.

Crouch, 43, called an end to his playing career back in 2019 while he was a member of Sean Dyche's Burnley side.

The former England international netted a total of 108 goals across his career in the top flight of English football, which arrived for a number of clubs including Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth.

It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for Crouch throughout his playing days though, as the former striker reflects on one the scarier match-ups he faced on a regular basis.

Speaking on the That Peter Crouch Podcast, the man himself revealed the one player who scared him most throughout his career. "Kevin Muscat scared me.

"You know people would say ‘I’m going to break your legs’ - when he would say it, you genuinely believed him."

Muscat, 50, was renowned for his no-nonsense approach throughout his time at clubs such as Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace and Millwall.

Crouch isn't the only player that has a reason to fear the Australian, with several other Premier League players - from both past and present - having run-ins with Muscat.

Everton veteran Ashley Young once claimed he told him he would 'break his legs' during his early days at Watford, while Muscat was also labelled a 'low life' by Arsenal hero Ian Wright.

Despite his aggressive approach in his playing days, Muscat has since ventured into the managerial world and is eager to adapt a more relaxed approach in his post-playing days.

"I want to be involved in teams that play a certain brand of football and that maybe contradicts what most people perceive to my playing days," he told AFP.

"I'm trying to forge my own way in terms of the way I coach, the way I manage and the way my teams play. That's really all I can do."

He is currently in charge of Chinese side Shanghai Port FC after previously being the boss at Melbourne Victory.
