Mason Greenwood has been offered to Lazio in the final hours of transfer window

Mason Greenwood has been offered to Lazio in the final hours of transfer window

The former Manchester United forward is currently looking for a new club.

Mason Greenwood has been offered to Serie A side Lazio, according to reports in Italy, although the deal is dependant on the 'approval' of Maurizio Sarri.

It was confirmed last month that the 21-year-old forward would leave Manchester United following a six-month investigation into his conduct.

Following charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control against him being dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023, United conducted a thorough internal investigation of their own.

The review was initially set to be concluded prior to the start of the new season but ended up being delayed.

Reports had indicated that the Premier League club were planning to reintegrate the player into Erik ten Hag's plans, leading to backlash from fans.

But the outcome of the investigation was confirmed on August 21, when United released an official statement confirming a mutual decision for Greenwood to continue his playing career away from Old Trafford.

Now, after days of speculation surrounding his immediate future, it appears Greenwood could join Serie A outfit Lazio after the Champions League club expressed an interest.

In fact, both Manchester United and Lazio have been in touch over a potential transfer, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who says Greenwood is open to a move to Italy.

That being said, the approval of manager Maurizio Sarri is needed to complete a deal.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added on Friday morning that "no decision has been made as of now" but confirmed Lazio have been offered the possibility to sign Greenwood from United in the final hours of this summer's window.

If United fail to find a buyer for Greenwood this summer then it could cost the club millions in the future, according to a report from The Sun.

The 21-year-old is currently contracted until 2025, meaning Erik ten Hag's side could be paying his wages for the next two years until he becomes a free agent.
