Marcus Rashford set to be fined by Man United for partying during the week

Marcus Rashford set to be fined by Man United for partying during the week

Marcus Rashford was dropped by Erik ten Hag for Manchester United's FA Cup tie at Newport County.

Marcus Rashford is set to be hit with a big financial punishment by Manchester United after he was dropped by Erik ten Hag for being 'ill' despite being spotted partying.

Rashford didn't feature on Sunday as Man United beat Newport County 4-2 to book their spot in the FA Cup fifth round.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring in the seventh minute, with Kobbie Mainoo doubling his side's advantage. The League Two team pulled one back before the break then equalised after half-time.

Man United returned fire with Antony and Rasmus Hojlund scoring in the second-half.

Rashford missed training on Friday just one day after being spotted in a Belfast nightclub.

The 26-year-old partied with his friend and former teammate Ro-Shaun Williams on Wednesday night as the first-team squad had been given a day off on Thursday.

However, it's claimed that he also went out to a nightclub on Thursday night even though he had to report back to training on Friday morning.

Rashford said he was 'ill' as he failed to report for training.

As a result, he's expected to be fined two weeks' wages, which amounts to £650,000, according to The Daily Star.

Without Rashford's services, the Red Devils advanced to the next round of the FA Cup following their thrilling victory over Newport.

They raced into a two-goal lead, with the Welsh side levelling proceedings. But the Premier League outfit regained their lead through two second-half goals.

Before the tie, Erik ten Hag was asked about Rashford's reported illness.

Quizzed about the forward's absence, the Man United boss replied: "Let's just say it's an internal matter. I deal with it."

Ten Hag was pressed by the reporter on whether the 'internal matter' was linked with Rashford partying.

He added: "So listen, internal matter... internal matter."

Man United have back-to-back Premier League games this week as they face Wolves on Thursday before hosting West Ham United on Sunday.
