Fans are all saying the same thing about Marcus Rashford's football IQ in Man United's defeat to Brighton

Fans are all saying the same thing about Marcus Rashford's football IQ in Man United's defeat to Brighton

Marcus Rashford has been criticised for a key moment in Manchester United's 3-1 defeat to Brighton.

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has his football IQ questioned for one particular moment in the dismal 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton.

United suffered a third loss in five games to continue a poor start to the Premier League season, having been thoroughly outplayed by Roberto De Zerbi's side at Old Trafford.

Goals from Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro put the Seagulls in dreamland and United could only manage a late consolation from youngster Hannibal Mejbri, ultimately suffering a first home defeat for 20 games.

And talisman Rashford came in for criticism. The England international received pelters for a perceived lack of effort when the visitors were on the ball.

But he was also called out for displaying a lack of footballing intelligence. Early in the second half Rashford had the ball down the left flank and squared up his defender.

He went past him and made the decision to shoot with his left foot, hitting the side-netting. But Rashford did not get his head up to see that Rasmus Hojlund had made a run to the far post and even slid in hope that he would receive the cross.

The Dane loves to make that very same movement and a fan has shared footage of him scoring from a carbon situation for Atalanta.

It garnered plenty of other supporters, with one stating: "The fact that Hojlund pointing where he will be and where he wants the ball as soon as rashford receives the ball makes me more annoyed."

A second said: "Just for growth, Rashford can watch Man City, how everyone works for the Haaland."

A third agreed: "It’s honestly ridiculous. Those bad decisions happen way to often for a club at this level, you begin to wonder if ETH isn’t seeing it and training them to do better."

A fourth didn't pull any punches, writing: "City players would not do this, that pass would have been made and put in the net. That's why they are champions. Rashford is all about himself, wants to be the star man. Needs to be dropped by Ten Hag.

A fifth weighed in: "Do you even think rashford was looking at him ? Lol. He thinks every other run in the box is a decoy for him to shoot."

A final user simply added: "What a selfish player we have in Rashford."

Rashford did lay one on for Hojlund in the first half and the former Copenhagen man thought he had opened his account for the club, only for the strike to be chalked off after the ball had gone out of play.

United, who have lost three of their first five for the first time since 1989, turn their attentions to the Champions league when they take on Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
