Man Utd's deal for player branded 'crazy' by club board member as journalist reveals inside transfer info

Man Utd's deal for player branded 'crazy' by club board member as journalist reveals inside transfer info

Manchester United's transfer in the summer of 2022 has been scrutinised.

One of Manchester United's deals in the summer of 2022 was branded 'crazy' by a club board member in a damning assessment of the high-profile transfer.

Following the appointment of Erik ten Hag, Man United splashed the cash to recruit new players to back their new manager.

They raided Ajax for Antony and Lisandro Martinez, securing their services in big-money transfers.

Antony was snapped up for a whopping £85 million while Martinez joined for £56.7 million.

That summer, the Red Devils also signed Casemiro from Real Madrid in a deal worth £70 million.

And, according to a journalist with inside information, Real Madrid couldn't believe what the Premier League side was offering for Casemiro.

ESPN's Rodrigo Faez claims a Real board member described the proposal as 'crazy'.

On mufcMPB, the Spanish journalist revealed: "When Manchester United came to Real Madrid to sign Casemiro, I remember talking to one of the members of Real Madrid’s board, and he told me 'please, please I hope Man United buy Casemiro as soon as possible, they are CRAZY about the money... they are going to offer €70m!'

"They hoped United would come again with this money for another player."

Casemiro enjoyed a stellar debut campaign at Old Trafford following his move to England.

But, this season, he has failed to replicate his form from the previous campaign, having struggled with injuries. He's played 22 games across all competitions after making 51 appearances last season.

As a result, his name has been doing the rounds in the transfer rumour mill, with Saudi Arabia thought to be keepings tabs on his situation ahead of making a concrete offer in the summer.

The 32-year-old penned a four-year deal at the club - with an option for an additional year's extension - upon signing for Man United.
