Shock name emerges on shortlist to replace Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag

Shock name emerges on shortlist to replace Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag

The shock manager has impressed in Spain's La Liga this season.

A shock name has emerged on the shortlist to replace under-fire Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

Pressure is mounting on Ten Hag, who was almost on the wrong end of a huge FA Cup upset last weekend.

Man United squandered a three-goal lead and had VAR to thank for as they edged out Coventry City on penalties.

Odds on who will replace the Dutch boss have been revealed, with the bookmakers including Gareth Southgate and Thomas Tuchel, among other managers.

A new name has now emerged on the shortlist to replace the Dutchman at Old Trafford.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Girona manager Michel Sanchez is on Man United's shortlist.

The report states that Michel is an option alongside Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi.

Michel, however, is contracted at Girona until 2026, meaning the Premier League giants will have to splash the cash to buy him out of his deal.

It's claimed that he has shown no signs of wanting to leave Spain and would be a surprise if he left his positions despite the allure of the Red Devils.

Michel has also attracted interest from Chelsea, who reportedly flew out several big wigs to Spain to meet him. But he rejected the club's proposal.

He has also been talked about as a potential successor within the City Group for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Michel played for the likes of Rayo Vallecano and Murcia before becoming a manager.

He then took charge of Rayo before taking a position at Huesca.

The 48-year-old was appointed Girona manager in July 2021 and has produced managerial heroics in this season's La Liga.

His side occupy third place, with just Real Madrid and Barcelona ahead of them in the league.

Michel's Girona have an impressive 68 points on the board, having won 21 of their 32 league games this campaign.

And they're on course to qualify for the Champions League.
