Fans rip into Erik ten Hag for 'top four' comments after Man Utd win over Luton

Fans rip into Erik ten Hag for 'top four' comments after Man Utd win over Luton

Supporters have ripped into the Red Devils boss.

Supporters have laid into Erik ten Hag for his comments about the top four following Manchester United's win over Luton.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday, beating newly promoted Luton 1-0 at Old Trafford thanks to Victor Lindelof's strike around the hour mark.

The victory has brought Ten Hag valuable breathing space after United's shock 4-3 defeat to FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.

However, fans weren't happy with the Dutchman's comments about the top four after the game, roasting the manager for stating the obvious.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Ten Hag said: "Once we start playing well, I think we will be in the competition for top five / top four."

Taking to social media to take aim at his words, one fan tweeted: "All I'm hearing is waffle."

While another wrote: "Really these guys are becoming jokers by the minute."

A third chimed in: "Right, so top 4 is the target now. What about the United fans who are saying they are just 6 points behind the league topper? What happens to their expectations."

A fourth added: "Top 4 is failure. 10 years straight below City illustrates top 4 does not actually mean anything. Win trophies."

However, not everyone was so critical of Ten Hag's mentality, with one fan tweeting: "That's the spirit! Can't wait to see the team climb up. Keep the positive vibes coming!"

Another added: "He’s the best man for the team. In Hag we trust."

After the international break, United travel to Goodison Park where they will take on Everton, with all eyes on Ten Hag and his players.
