Former Man United starlet faces backlash over deleted I’m A Celeb tweet

The former Manchester United player later deleted his tweet

A former Manchester United player has faced backlash after tweeting about a contestant on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here.

The popular ITV show returned last weekend and it has become one of the biggest talking points of the week.

From the world of sports, former boxing champion Tony Bellew and famous jockey Frankie Dettori are expected to be entering the jungle.

During Tuesday night’s episode, former United player received backlash after he tweeted about I’m A Celeb contestant and YouTuber Nella Rose.

The now Exeter City man wrote: “Nella not eating dinner. I’m a celeb going to be good for her.”

Mitchell later deleted his tweet.

The 26-year-old spent 13 years at United after joining the club at the age of 10.

After working his way up through the ranks, Mitchell made one Premier League appearance for the Old Trafford club in the 16/17 season against Crystal Palace.

Mitchell then spent time on loan with Scottish club Hearts before leaving for Blackpool on a permanent transfer in 2020.

After making more than 40 appearances for Blackpool, Mitchell joined Hibernian before signing for League One side Exeter City in January.

He scored during the Carabao Cup tie against Premier League outfit Luton Town, Exeter won 1-0 courtesy of Mitchell’s goal.

However, he was sent off during the match with Luton after picking up a second yellow card just five minutes after scoring.

Earlier in the month, it was confirmed that Mitchell suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Exeter’s 3-2 defeat against Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Mitchell is expected to miss the remainder of the season as he is scheduled to be out of action for around six to nine months.

Writing on Twitter, Mitchell said: “Just caught a 9-month sentence for an ACL / 6 months with good behaviour.

“We’ll be back don’t worry.”
