Man City fans label Cole Palmer 'traitor' after finding out what he got booked for in first half

Man City fans label Cole Palmer 'traitor' after finding out what he got booked for in first half

They are not happy.

Manchester City fans are furious at Cole Palmer after the Chelsea star received a booking against his former club.

City were awarded a controversial penalty during Pep Guardiola's side's Premier League encounter with Chelsea on Sunday.

Indeed, Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot after Marc Cucurella was deemed to have pulled Erling Haaland to the ground in the box.

And while it was clear from the replay that Haaland simultaneously fouled Cucurella before the penalty was awarded, VAR chose not to overturn the decision.

Naturally, Haaland stepped up and converted his penalty.

However, moments before the Norway international's goal Palmer, a former City player, was yellow carded for scuffing the penalty spot, sparking the fury of the City faithful.

On X, the social media platform formally known as Twitter, one person branded Palmer a "traitor".

Another said: "Cole Palmer supported United, joined City then left for Chelsea…

"And some people are surprised he’s being a p**** against us? He’s a [snake]."

A third person wrote: "Cole Palmer booked for turning into a prime penalty-spot-scuffing k***…"

A fourth said: "Cole Palmer booked for scuffing the penalty spot before Haaland took it. Lil B****".

Palmer joined Chelsea on deadline day for some £42.5 million, departing City despite having netted in the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup finals.

Since moving to the Blues Palmer has notched three goals and four assists in his first 10 games.

On Palmer's departure, Pep Guardiola explained: "Cole arrived and accepted some processes and then after one or two years said ‘No, I don’t want to play here, I am not going to play.’

"But I said ‘Riyad [Mahrez] is leaving, you are going to get a chance here,’ and he said ‘No, I am not going to play here, I want to leave,’ so I said ‘OK, leave.

"He got what he wanted. It is good for him. He is a young player, a huge talent otherwise he would not have been here. He is a nice lad and is doing really good."
