Punter pockets 'greatest freeze bet' of all time thanks to Luton Town taking the lead vs Man City

Punter pockets 'greatest freeze bet' of all time thanks to Luton Town taking the lead vs Man City

Luton Town were winning against Manchester City at one stage on Sunday afternoon

A punter pocketed one of the greatest freeze bets of all time thanks to Luton Town taking the lead against Manchester City.

On Sunday afternoon, newly promoted Luton welcomed champions City to Kenilworth Road.

During what was expected to be an easy afternoon for Pep Guardiola’s men, they fell behind just before halftime thanks to a header from Elijah Adebayo.

Thanks to Adebayo’s goal, one punter managed to make a profit of £1263.81.

The punter had betted on Liverpool, Paris Saint Germain, AZ Alkmaar, Everton and Luton to all win their respective matches at the odds of 126.4/1.

With Luton 1-0 up, the punter decided to freeze his bet and cashed out to win £1,273.81. Posting on social media, the lucky fan wrote: “Cheers Luton x.”

The bet came through as City moved up the gears in the second half to win the match 2-1 thanks to goals from Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish.

The AccaFreeze option is a new feature on Sky Bet, which allows punters with an acca of 5 teams or more to freeze one of the scores to win the leg early.

Speaking after the match, City boss Guardiola said: “We have to demand more of ourselves. I said to them what are we going to do, feel sorry for ourselves? It's football, it's life.

“If they score a second, are we going to complain again and say we were unlucky? Strikers: be more aggressive and score goals. Defend the crosses better in the last minutes and be positive.”

He added: “It's normal to say City aren't the same and it's over. That's nice – let’s prove that wrong, (show) that we still want to be there and compete. They’re an extraordinary group of players.”

After their vital win at Kenilworth Road, City remained in fourth place in the Premier League table, two points behind third-placed Aston Villa and four behind leaders Liverpool.
