Erik ten Hag could block Liverpool from getting one of their top targets to replace Jurgen Klopp

Erik ten Hag could block Liverpool from getting one of their top targets to replace Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of the 23/24 season.

Erik ten Hag could prevent Liverpool from getting one of their top targets to replace Jurgen Klopp.

On Friday morning, it was confirmed that Klopp will leave his role as Liverpool manager when the 23/24 season comes to a close.

The news has sent shockwaves through the world of football, with Liverpool fans now worried about what the club’s future will look like.

Since the news broke, former Reds midfielder, Xabi Alonso, who is currently in charge of German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, is the bookies’ favourite to replace Klopp.

Aside from Alonso, the likes of Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank and Julian Nagelsmann have also been linked with the job.

However, current Manchester United boss Ten Hag could have a role in who Liverpool could get as Klopp’s replacement.

According to the Daily Telegraph, United have De Zerbi, along with Thomas Tuchel on their shortlist if they choose to sack Ten Hag.

It has been a tough season so far for Ten Hag as United have struggled to perform to their best.

The Dutchman’s future has since been questioned, especially with the arrival of new investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

If United decide they want to part ways with Ten Hag this season, Liverpool could have a fight on their hands if they are serious about hiring De Zerbi, who has impressed through his work at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has previously heaped praise on the Italian.

He said: “There is no team playing the way they play - it's unique. I had the feeling when he arrived the impact he would have in the Premier League would be great - I didn't expect him to do it in this short space of time.

“He creates 20 or 25 chances per game, better by far than most opponents. He monopolises the ball in a way it hasn't been for a long time. They deserve completely the success they have.”
