Liverpool could sign one of Europe's 'hottest talents' as Man Utd forced to pull out of race

Liverpool could sign one of Europe's 'hottest talents' as Man Utd forced to pull out of race

The Reds are thought to be frontrunners for his signature.

Liverpool could sign one of Europe's 'hottest talents' following reports that Manchester United have been forced to pull out of race.

The Reds had a busy summer transfer window, with a significant number of outgoings including Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

As a result, Jurgen Klopp added a midfield quintet of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

However, their next signing looks set to come in a completely different position, with the Reds reportedly keen on signing Sporting Lisbon centre-back Goncalo Inacio.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Liverpool's interest earlier this month, as he told CaughtOffside that the 22-year-old was on Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United's list.

But in a boost to Klopp's transfer hopes, Premier League rivals United have had to pull out of the race for his signature due to insufficient funds, according to Football Insider.

The may leave the path clear for Liverpool, who were leading the race to sign Inacio back in May, claim French outlet Le Parisien.

The Portuguese defender has since signed a contract extension, keeping him at Sporting until 2027.

Although Liverpool are thought to be open to paying his £42.9 million release clause in order to strengthen their back line.

Being left-footed, Inacio would provide useful cover for Virgil van Dijk, who normally operates on the left-hand side.

While the youngster was described as one of the hottest talents in Europe, according to a Daily Mail scouting report.
