Odds have dropped on a new name to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager.

Since Xabi Alonso publicly committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen last month, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim has been the bookies favourite (1/5) to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

While the 39-year-old has dismissed reports claiming he has already interviewed for the Liverpool job, he has stopped short of committing his future to Sporting beyond this term.

Amorim said: "This is the last time I'm going to talk about my future. There was no interview and certainly no agreement. The only thing we all want here is to be champions with Sporting, nothing will change. I'm the Sporting coach and there was no interview or agreement with any club.

"I'm just focused, as always, on representing my club. As I no longer have anything else to say… There will be no interviews or agreements with the Sporting coach. The matter is completely resolved, whether related to this club or another."

Sky Bet and many other bookies have Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi as the second favourite (10/1), with the Italian having been similarly cryptic about his long-term future on the south coast.

De Zerbi has also been linked with the Barcelona and Manchester United job in recent months.

Curiously, Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is now Sky Bet’s third favourite to become Liverpool manager at 12/1.

Slot has made quite a name for himself in the Netherlands, having led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last term. They are still in with a shot this campaign, though PSV needs just one more win to beat them to the crown.

Slot has long insisted his next month would be in the Premier League.

"My next step will not be a club in Holland," he said last year (via Sky Sports). "If that is my next step, then I've failed completely. The normal next step will be to go abroad and I've always said the best league in the world is the Premier League."

Meanwhile, when asked about the possibility of becoming Liverpool boss following Klopp announcing his departure, Slot didn’t rule it out.

“What answer can I give that there will be no headlines about it? So next question!” Slot said, via Voetbal Primeur.
