Jordan Henderson was shocked by Ajax manager's cheeky question about time in Saudi Arabia during medical

Jordan Henderson has left Al Ettifaq for Dutch side Ajax

Jordan Henderson was on the end of a cheeky question from Ajax manager John van’t Schip.

Earlier in the month, it was reported that former Liverpool captain Henderson was looking to leave Saudi Professional League side Al Ettifaq, just six months after joining.

This week, it was confirmed that Dutch giants Ajax were seriously interested in bringing the Englishman to Amsterdam.

On Thursday, the move was confirmed as Henderson announced his departure from Saudi Arabia.

During the first interview with the club, which was posted on their official YouTube channel, Henderson was greeted by manager Van’t Schip when he was conducting his medical.

The interim coach appeared to aim a cheeky question at the midfielder, he said: “You look sharp, you didn’t gain any weight I see?”

Henderson smiled and replied: “No, I still feel good.”

Speaking about Henderson’s arrival, Van’t Schip said: “We wanted an experienced midfielder with leadership qualities. Partially due to injuries in the team, we were looking for someone who could step in immediately. Jordan Henderson is that type of player.

“His arrival means a huge enhancement for our squad. Both on and off the pitch, a football player of this calibre is important for our many young players. He’s an English international player and has won the Champions League and many other prizes with Liverpool. I am happy he’s here, and I think it’s very good for our club that he’s an Ajacied from today onwards.”

The 23/24 season has been a struggle for Ajax so far after a dreadful start left them in the relegation zone.

However, they have managed to turn their form around and have since climbed to fifth place in the Eredivisie table.

Ajax are currently nine points adrift of the Champions League qualification spot and there is a mammoth 23-point gap between themselves and league leaders PSV Eindhoven.
