Mauro Icardi and Dries Mertens appeared to laugh at Wilfried Zaha’s poor touch

Wilfried Zaha was in action for Galatasaray in the Champions League

Mauro Icardi and Dries Mertens were spotted laughing after Wilfried Zaha’s poor touch during Galatasaray’s Champions League qualifier.

On Tuesday, Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray were up against Slovenian club NK Olimpija Ljubljana in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

Last month, Zaha left Premier League side Crystal Palace for Galatasaray after his contract came to an end.

Against NK Olimpija Ljubljana, Icardi opened the scoring in the 24th minute and Zaha was brought on at the start of the second half.

During Zaha’s cameo, he struggled to control a pass and ended up knocking the ball out of play.

The camera straight away cut to a shot of Mertens and Icardi, who were seen on the bench laughing and hiding their faces.

Whilst it is unclear what exactly they were laughing at, many people felt they were laughing at Zaha’s touch.

On the back of their 1-0 victory, Galatasaray are through to the next round after winning 4-0 on aggregate. They will next play FC Molde, with the winners securing a place in the Champions League group stage.

After leaving Palace, Zaha wrote: “I want to thank [Palace chairman] Steve Parish, all of my team-mates, coaches and the entire Palace fanbase for always believing in me and encouraging me to get to where I am today.

“I have been blessed to play in front of you and call you family from the day you accepted me. From the bottom of my heart, I'm forever grateful.”

Whilst Palace boss Roy Hodgson said: “I was really sad to hear that Wilf has decided to leave and start a new chapter in his footballing life.

“The club is losing an iconic figure and although we regret that it has not been possible to persuade Wilfried to stay longer, we can only wish the very best of luck to him and his family.”
