Ezequiel Lavezzi has been hospitalised after being stabbed in an argument in Uruguay, reports claim.

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Argentina star Ezequiel Lavezzi has been hospitalised after being stabbed, reports claim.

According to South American outlet Clarin, Lavezzi is in hospital in the Punta del Este region of Uruguay.

It's claimed he was involved in an argument at 5am on Wednesday following a party at his home.

He is believed to have been wounded in the abdomen during the altercation, whilst also suffering a fractured collarbone.

Lavezzi is reportedly in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

However, reports over the happenings have been conflicting to say the least.

Another outlet, El Observador, citing police sources, claims that Lavezzi was stabbed by a family member in a dispute over money.

Yet TYC Sports say Lavezzi's family sources say that it was not the case, stating that his injury was caused from slipping off a ladder while trying to change a light bulb.

Meanwhile, FM Gente say that both Lavezzi and his girlfriend were admitted to hospital.

Lavezzi played for both Estuadiantes and San Lorenzo in his native Argentina before joining Napoli in 2007.

He went on to score 48 times in 188 appearances before signing a deal with Paris Saint-Germain, where he won three consecutive Ligue One titles and scored 35 goals.

Capped 51 times by Argentina, Lavezzi would then secure a lucrative contract with Hebei China Fortune and became one of the highest-paid players in world football at the time.

He spent nearly three years in the Chinese Super League before retiring in 2019.

Recently Lavezzi has been a pundit for Amazon Prime Italia on Champions League games involving Napoli.
