Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has revealed exactly what happens when a player moves on a free transfer.

Foster came out of retirement to sign on a free transfer for Wrexham in 2023 and was crucial to the Welsh side earning promotion to the Football League with a vital penalty save against Notts County.

This isn't the first time 'Fozcast' has shed light on the inside dealings of football, with Foster previously revealing the secret website Nike athletes use to order the newest boots.

The former England goalkeeper has used his first-hand experience to break down exactly what is going to happen between Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappe on his podcast, as the Frenchmen looks set to sign on a free.

"Can I just break down a bit of a myth about free transfers as well, because everyone says why don't you sign him he's on a free transfer," Foster said.

"Right, so let me just explain how a free transfer works.

"This one is crazy (Mbappe to Real Madrid) because it is going to be ridiculously expensive, so first of all let's just talk about the wages because what he will say is that because you aren't paying a transfer fee for me you will pay me in wages instead.

"You'll be talking £750,000 a week, and that's the starter because then you're going to pencil in all the bonuses," Foster continued.

It won't just be Mbappe who will be lining his pocket through the expected move, as his agent will also be making sure he benefits from the free transfer as much as possible.

"The amount of money they are going to have to pay this guy in bonuses is going to be phenomenal, but then also his agent. His agent will say to Real Madrid we can take Kylian to Arsenal to Liverpool, but I'm bringing him to you so I want £50m," The 40-year-old explained.

"That's exactly what is going to happen I promise you," He concluded.
