Martin Odegaard suffered embarrassing moment when trying to rally Arsenal fans against Liverpool

Arsenal were knocked out of the FA Cup by Liverpool on Sunday

Martin Odegaard suffered an embarrassing moment during Arsenal’s clash against Liverpool.

On Sunday afternoon, the Gunners welcomed Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium for a mouth-watering FA Cup third-round tie.

Despite a dominant display, Arsenal failed to put the ball into the back of Alisson Becker’s net as Jurgen Klopp’s men came out 2-0 winners thanks to an own goal from Jakub Kiwior and a late Luis Diaz strike.

During the match, many spotted Arsenal captain Odegaard trying to get the crowd going as his team pushed for a goal.

However, it was later revealed that the Norwegian was gesturing to the Liverpool fans.

Broadcaster John Bradley wrote: “There was a very funny moment during the first half of Arsenal Liverpool. Think it was when Jarell Quansah was injured.

“Martin Odegaard looks behind the goal and implores the crowd to make some noise and get behind Arsenal…not realising it was Liverpool fans behind the goal.”

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “I saw that and thought has he just done that to the Liverpool end. Lol.”

Another tweeted: “What’s Odegaard doing to our fans then.”

A third fan added: “Someone needs to tell Odegaard that away fans are in the section to the right of the goal today. Didn’t get any reaction when trying to get them all going before!”

Someone else wrote: “Did Odegaard just try to pump up the Liverpool fans thinking it’s Arsenal fans??”

Speaking after the match, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said: “We didn’t take the chances, I haven’t seen any other team in the first six months that have generated what we have done against them in the last two games and we’re not capitalising - not today, in the last few games - that’s why we are not winning games.

“Performance-wise, merit-wise, there is no question, but to win the game actually the results say something very different. When my team plays with that attitude, with that courage, with that desire and do what they’ve done to probably the best team in Europe at the moment in terms of momentum, what can I do? Stay behind them and support them.”
