Ivan Toney’s latest Instagram activity will get Arsenal fans talking ahead of January transfer window

Ivan Toney’s latest Instagram activity will get Arsenal fans talking ahead of January transfer window

Will he remain at Brentford beyond January?

Brentford striker Ivan Toney is continuing to cause a stir on social media after he liked a recent comment on Instagram urging him to sign for Arsenal.

The 27-year-old forward has been out of action for the last eight months after he was found guilty of breaching the FA's rules over gambling back in May and is set to return to action next month.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have all been linked with a move for the England international, with the recent understanding that Brentford are open to discussing a deal for the forward.

Toney's most recent Instagram post is flooded with comments urging him to sign for the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, with the former Peterborough man himself liking one message asking him to join Mikel Arteta's side.

Quickly picked upon by other social media users, fans have suggested his mind is already made up about where his future lies, with the January window now right around the corner.

A recent report from The Independent suggests the Gunners are currently the frontrunners to secure his services next month, with any transfer likely to cost the club between £60 million and £80 million.

The Bees striker scored a whopping 21 goals in 35 games last season for Thomas Frank's side and he retains hope he can still return to Gareth Southgate's plans in time for next summer's European Championships in Germany.

Brentford currently sit 12th in the Premier League table heading into this weekend's round of fixtures, having failed to win any of their last four outings.

Frank has already made it abundantly clear he wishes to keep Toney at the club but also admitted sometimes these things are simply out of a manager's hands.

“For me as a coach, I don’t want to sell him," he told media earlier this year.

“Of course I want my best players. Of course I say to Phil [Giles] or Matt [Benham] ‘don’t sell him’.

“Ivan is a world class player, so why should we sell a world class player? I want him to play for Brentford for the rest of his contract but that’s not up to me to decide.”
