Why It Would Be Better For England To Finish Second In Group G

Why It Would Be Better For England To Finish Second In Group G

England might be better off finishing second in Group G.

It's coming home, isn't it? It's actually going to happen.

Surely, after that tremendous effort against Panama, England are set to sail through and lift the World Cup.

Yes, it's only Panama, a country who scored their first World Cup goal just today, but still, we have to believe.

It's hard to pinpoint whether England are genuinely in with a shout this time, or whether it's just the sensation we always get in a World Cup tournament.

History will tell you that we will be built up and then crushed somewhere early in the knockout stages.

But Gareth Southgate's men are having one of the most convincing group stage performances in recent memory.

A 6-1 thrashing of Panama followed by a 2-1 victory over Tunisia in their opening game could be seen as the perfect start.

Now that the Three Lions have made it into the knockout stages, everyone is looking at the route Gareth Southgate's side could possibly take in the coming weeks.

England and Belgium are on the same points and should they draw, the decision of who will top the group will be based on Fair Play rules.

It will make an interesting match as it appears to be an easier route to finish in second place rather than first.

Just take a look at the possible routes England can take right now.

Would you rather England go second or first in Group G?
