Eric Dier has hailed England teammate Jordan Pickford after goalkeeper's efforts saw the Three Lions through to the quarterfinals of the World Cup.

England were denied a 1-0 win late on and looked shaky for the most part in the extra time as the Round of 16 tie against Colombia went to penalties.

It seemed as though history would creep around again but thanks to players Dier and Pickford, England have a date with Sweden in the quarterfinals at 3pm on Saturday.

And Spurs player Dier went on to pay the goalkeeper a massive compliment following the conclusion of tonight's match.

He said: "It was a nervous one. I've never really been in a situation like that before but felt I had to score after missing the header at the end so I'm just thankful I scored!

"Jordan (Pickford) is a fantastic goalkeeper and deserves everything. His attitude is brilliant and he's been brilliant in training and taken it into the game.

"To get knocked down like we did is difficult to come back from it. We knew what we had to do and we stayed calm. We never panicked. We were ready for that."

Gareth Southgate might be one of the most popular men in England tonight. There is truly something special brewing with his side, something that has been missing for some time.

As for Pickford, just before the Colombia goal, his fine save denied a wild effort seemingly heading for the top-corner. It might be the save of the competition so far.

Whatever you're doing, lads, just keep on doing it.
