Unhappy Bayern Fans Troll Referee Cuneyt Cakir

Unhappy Bayern Fans Troll Referee Cuneyt Cakir

There have been worse cases of fan revolt over referee decisions recently, but this surely will still sting

Tempers were running high after Tuesday nights' second-leg Champions League clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich - a game where an obvious penalty was not given to the losing Bundesliga side.

The incident has prompted some supporters to troll referee Cuneyt Cakir online by changing his online bio on Wikipedia from an officiate of the game to referee who works for Real Madrid.

They're angry because the referee was to blame for not spotting a blatant handball by Real Madrid left-back Marcelo inside the box. In the first half, Joshua Kimmich's crossed ball seemed to have hit the Brazilian's hand, but the referee waved play on and Bayern went on to lose yet another European semi-final, the contest finishing 4-3 to Los Blancos on aggregate.

A penalty at that point could have changed the tide of the match, the German giants only needing a goal more to progress onto the Champions League final, the score level at 1-1.

Understandably, this has angered supporters.

And one has even taken the trouble to go onto Caki's Wikipedia page and change his occupation from 'referee' to 'Real Madrid player as position of referee'.

It's a new position, apparently, and it sounds highly effective - game-changing, even. The bio goes on to say that Cakir 'considers it is not a handball if it touches the hand after the transfer to Real Madrid.' We're not sure what that last part means, but it's surely cutting satire at the expense of Cakir.

Matters weren't helped when the brutally honest Marcelo said in a post-match press conference. "It's a handball. It hit me on the hand and I think it's a penalty. If I say it didn't hit me I'd be lying, but football is like that." he said.

"I don't talk about referees, but it's clear that sometimes they make decisions in your favour and other times against you, but whatever happens you have to play football."

What are your thoughts? Undoubtedly a penalty, right? Let us know in the comments below.
