Argentina have thrown their 2018 World Cup chances in doubt, after haplessly losing 3-0 to Croatia - and now it appears some players could be on their way out.

In Group D, the Europeans turned the South Americans inside out, with Ante Rebic pouncing on Willy Caballero's dreadful mistake, before Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic rounded off a well-deserved win for Croatia with goals of their own.

2018 is one of the worst World Cup campaigns for Argentina in living memory. They could well get knocked out in the group stages.

What makes the downfall all the more spectacular, is the fact that they have the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain in their ranks.

Well, at least they do for the time-being.

With news of a munity stemming out of the Argentina camp, with players pilling on pressure to get rid of Jorge Sampaoli, it seems that he will not be the only Argentine member out the door:

Seven Argentina internationals are reportedly set to retire following the conclusion of this tournament.

And it's not just the ageing veterans who are set to leave. The names which are thought to retire include Marcos Rojo, Ever Banega, Aguero, Angel Di Maria, Javier Mascherano, Higuain and Messi.

Some of these names are the core of the Argentina national side. Without them, the national side could be in all sorts of bother.
