Campbell has gone for an unconventional formation - and starting line-up.

Sol Campbell has a unique starting England X choice.

The former England centre-back was once considered one of best defenders in the game but some of his exploits outside football have left many bemused, with his latest England line-up selection being no different.

Now that England manager Gareth Southgate has gone ahead and chosen his 23 man England squad, a solid selection only let down by the admission of centre-back Jamal Lascelles, Campbell was asked by Sky Sports to choose the line-up that he would start for England's opening game against Tunisia on 28th June.

He's gone for the not-so-classic 3-2-3-2 formation, using Jordan Henderson and Eric Dier as the holding midfielders. But it's the forward lines and the defence that has people baffled. Wing-back Kyle Walker goes in as a centre-back and the Raheem Sterling and Jese Lingard are out wide, with Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane leading the line. In fairness, that's not too bad.

It's certainly a unique line-up, but that hasn't stopped social media for vilifying the former Arsenal player for his choice.

Indeed, Campbell, like many BAME individuals who make up a large percentage of current footballers, is having a tough time in finding job as a manager. Perhaps those on social media should instead focus their attention to the nepotism and marginalisation of BAME former players in the industry.

Yes, of course the online users are poking fun, and Campbell's choice of formation might be an outside choice, but to say that it's the reason why he can't find work as a manager is plain ignorance.
