Former players, managers and famous supporters of Manchester United have paid tribute to Michael Carrick, who is retiring from football after 19 years playing.

Carrick played his final game with Man United. He received a hero's farewell at Old Trafford with a guard of honour, before the home side's match against Watford.

The talisman has enjoyed a tremendous career, mainly with Man United, who he's been with since 2006, He made the move from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £14 million, possibly rising to £18 million, in 2006 and has not looked back since.

During his Man United career, he dropped back into the defensive midfield role, where he's earned the praise of many with his ability to dictate a game from behind the central midfield line.

Some have even considered him as a deep-lying playmaker whose footballing intelligence usurps any need for pace, shooting and stamina.

In July 2017, the Carrick was given the captain's armband following the departure of Wayne Rooney to Everton on a free.

Now with the Newcastle-born player retiring, a farewell video has emerged. With figures such as Harry Redknapp, Wayne Roone, Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard, Jermain Defoe and Rio Lampard appearing on the video to thank the Man United legend for his service to the club. But the real surprise was the appearance of Sir Alex Ferguson.

And the replies are heartfelt.

The video was almost definitely made before the news broke that the former Man United boss had taken ill because of a brain haemorrhage. Ferguson appears to be on the mend now and remains an impatient at a Salford hospital after a successful operation.

Carrick has often been overlooked, but those who watch Man United regularly know that he's a true great and a massive addition to the team. He's won five Premier League titles, a Champions League title and a F.A cup, to name a few. A true legend.

We wish Carrick all the best in his future endeavours.
