Simon Mignolet has responded to the departure of Loris Karius after the keeper made the move to Süper Lig club Beşiktas on loan. And his quotes have raised a few eyebrows.

The Belgium goalkeeper and his former teammate found themself surplus to requirements after Alisson joined from AS Roma for a then world-record transfer fee for a goalkeeper.

Mignolet was Liverpool's number one, but his inconsistencies meant that he was dropped in favour of 25-year-old.

Karius enjoyed a great spell with the Reds, but in the Champions League final, Karius' two howlers saw Real Madrid win their third consecutive, winning 3-1 against the Merseyside club in Kiev, Ukraine.

"I find it bizarre that Karius was loaned while I also had options to be loaned. But for some reason that was not possible.

"A goalkeeper who was preferred to me last year may leave on a loan basis. Strange.

"The transfer of Karius doesn't change anything for me. I have always been clear: I want to play.

"Being number two or number three makes little difference. Playing minutes is the most important thing.

"Nobody has said anything to me after the departure of Loris. So I don't know what my future at Liverpool is. We will see what happens this week."

These are strange comments. It really seems as though Mignolet is hoping to make the move away.
