It's not always about CR7. It just is 99% of the time.

Cristiano Ronaldo has apologised for stealing Real Madrid's thunder after he plunged his future at the club into doubt.

The attacker wasn't the focal point of Madrid's superb victory over Liverpool in the Champions League final, that award falls with Gareth Bale, whose goal, an overhead kick, might just knock Zinedine Zidane's volley against Bayer Leverkusen off as the being considered the greatest Champions League final goal of all time.

After the match which saw Ronaldo earn his fifth Champions League medal - his fourth for Real Madrid in five seasons - the Portugal international said as per the BBC: "In the next few days I'll give an answer to the fans.

"It was beautiful to be at Real Madrid. The future of any Madrid player is not important; we have just made history."

Obviously, this sent Real Madrid supporters into meltdown, but just recently Ronaldo has come out to apologise for his comments, as it took away from the club's historic match in Kiev.

He said as per the Mirror: "Maybe it wasn't the perfect timing to talk about personal things. Maybe I've made a mistake or not," he said.

"It takes away from a beautiful, historic moment for us that is winning three Champions Leagues in a row, obviously it is a special moment.

"A player's personal things aren't the most important thing now, it might have been taken out of context but maybe I shouldn't have said what I said. But when you are honest, sometimes you say things that you don't mean to, but it's something that's been a long time coming.

"I'll talk in a week when I am with the national team because I don't want to take this top moment away from Real Madrid.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez responded angrily to Ronaldo's initial comments, reminding him of his contract.

And while the former Manchester United did apologise, it should be noted that he has not made an retraction. His doubt is still in doubt.

Wonder if he has Jose Mourinho's number?
