Neymar has spoken out for the first time since Brazil were knocked out of the World Cup in the quarterfinals to Belgium.

The Paris Saint-Germain star had been billed to be one of the top performers at this summer's World Cup - and that was true for the most part, only such antics as rolling around on the floor when touched by the opposition did not go down well with some spectators.

Neymar, despite being one of the most talented players in the world, is often criticised for his behaviour off the ball. Why he feels the need to do it, we don't know.

"I wouldn't go as far as to say I didn't want to play again but, I didn't want to see a ball, or to see any more football played" he said in an interview with AFP.

"I was in mourning, I was really sad about it, but sadness passes, I have my son, my family, my friends and they don't want to see me moping around. I've got more reason to be happy than sad".

He spoke on the criticism he received in the World Cup for his apparent diving.

"I went to the World Cup to play, to beat the opposition, not to get kicked. The criticism of me was exaggerated, but I'm a big boy, I'm used to dealing with this kind of thing.

"And I can't be the referee and play at the same time, but there are times I wish I could," he said.

Neymar also touched on a possible move to Real Madrid: "The guys who come up with these stories seem to know more about my life than I do. I won't respond to this type of question because nothing happened".

That clears that one up, then - surely?
