Newcastle United players Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie were reportedly involved in a training ground bust-up amid uncertain times at the club.

The captain was left out of the Magpie's Premier League clash against Chelsea, a game which they lost 2-1, and reports surfaced that the Rafa Benitez and the defender fell out over the Spaniard's decision to deploy a back three against Chelsea and use Lascelles on the right side of the defence.

The centre-back, however, felt that his best position was to be in the middle, and reportedly - as per the Daily Mail - Lascelles didn't back down from the discussion and so was dropped.

But the story doesn't end there: a report now states that Matt Ritchie and Lascelles were involved in a bust-up over the incident and had to be separated by teammates.

The report says that the pair have since made up and the whole episode is behind them.

Lascelles and Ritchie are two of the most impassioned players in the squad. They want to do right by their team. This story doesn't highlight a disgruntled dressing room, but a squad full of players who wear their heart on their sleeve.

Now local outlet the Chronicle report that the two players are unhappy that the initial story from the Mail went public.

In their report they state:

"It's true that Jamaal Lascelles and Rafa Benitez exchanged opinions about a five-man defence but both the manager and the club captain have played down talk of a bust-up.

"Matt Ritchie also offered his viewpoint on the situation but while his exchange with Lascelles was understood to be a little heated, it was deemed as nothing unusual within the working environment of the club's Benton base.

"Benitez, Ritchie and Lascelles all went into the game against Chelsea having aired their views before getting on with the tough Premier League clash."

Looks like this one will all blow over.
